Rumor has it 120Hz displays will only appear on Pro versions of the iPhone 13

Only two months have passed since the launch of the iPhone 12, and the Web is already full of rumours about the upcoming iPhone 13. A fresh leak reveals some of the features regarding the displays that will be used in future smartphones of the California company.

According to Korean press reports, only two models of the iPhone 13 series will receive matrices with a refresh rate of 120 Hz… These devices will be modifications of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. At the same time, it is assumed that the iPhone 13 series will have four smartphones, as well as in the iPhone 12 family. Recall, according to rumours, Apple planned to implement 120 Hz displays back in the iPhone 12 but abandoned this idea due to their too-high energy consumption. However, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will still use energy-efficient LTPO panels made with low-temperature polycrystalline oxides with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. One of the main advantages of such LTPO matrices is the ability to dynamically change the refresh rate, reducing it down to 1 Hz, for example, when displaying a static image or using the Always On Display function, which has a positive effect on energy consumption.

As for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, they will receive more familiar matrices based on LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) technology. Their refresh rate will be 60 Hz.

The iPhone 13 is rumoured to be unveiled next September. They are expected to receive an updated ultra-wide-angle camera, A15 Bionic chipset and storage capacities up to 1 TB.
