Rumors: Microsoft did not buy temporary exclusivity of Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Former Game Informer Senior Editor Imran Khan in a new episode of the Kinda Funny Games Daily podcast and on the ResetEra forum commented on the delayed release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PS5.

Recall that the newest part of the Sega crime series will go on sale for the upcoming Sony console almost four months later than for all other target platforms, including Microsoft devices.

According to Khan, in the first quarter of 2017, the Redmond company reconsidered its approach to Japanese releases and began in every possible way “courting” and persuading Sega to release Yakuza on Xbox consoles.

Contrary to popular belief, Khan assures, Microsoft did not pay for the four-month delay in the release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PlayStation 5, but simply took on some financial obligations.

“They paid, for example, for marketing and shouldered some other costs, and therefore Sega preferred the Xbox versions. Sony did that too. And Nintendo too, ”said Khan.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be released on November 10 this year on PC (Steam, Windows 10), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The release on PlayStation 5 is expected only on March 2, 2021.

At the same time, the PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will not only go on sale later but will also offer a smaller set of functions: in particular, the edition of the game for Japanese consoles will not transfer saves from one generation to another.
