The Munich manufacturer registered the “BMW X8” and “BMW X8 M” brands a while ago, revealing the future arrival of new models. These would be premium-class Coupe SUVs with which the German manufacturer really wants to aim high in order to compete with the Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne . But the most interesting news comes from a Car Magazine report that stressed that the “M” model, the one that should offer the most sporting performance, should be characterized by a very powerful Plug-in hybrid engine.
According to what emerged, the powertrain should be composed of a 4.4-litre Biturbo V8 coupled to a 200 hp electric motor. The end result would be a unit capable of delivering 750 hp. It would be a very high power capable of giving strong driving emotions. The car, codenamed ” Project Rockstar “, would be made starting from the CLAR platform and the electric motor should be of the fifth generation, therefore very similar to what will be present on the iNext electric that we saw in some images during the test in the desert.
Obviously these are indiscretions, and as such they must be evaluated also because the debut would be very far in time. BMW X8 is rumoured to arrive in dealerships during 2022. For the sporting variant “M” it would be possible to wait maybe a couple of years longer. All that remains is to be patient and wait for new information to truly understand what the precise plans of the German brand are for its future X8.
