Samsung doesn’t expect big demand for Galaxy S21 smartphones, despite price cuts

Despite the fact that the smartphones of the new Galaxy S21 series, presented by Samsung in January, are much cheaper than their predecessors, the company does not expect that this will lead to an increase in sales compared to previous models.

According to the South Korean publication The Elec, Samsung has prepared a rather conservative forecast for the Galaxy S21 series shipments in 2021 – about 26 million units. According to the publication, these numbers coincide with the implementation of smartphones of the Galaxy S20 series in 2020, adding that Samsung does not consider such sales to be impressive.

The company reportedly set this prediction for the Galaxy S21 series due to the potential negative impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on its physical store operations as well as its presence in the premium segment.

It is assumed that the base model Galaxy S21 will account for 40% of shipments – about 10 million units, while the Galaxy S21 Plus and S21 Ultra may account for 30% of shipments, that is, 8 million units. It noted that Samsung’s estimate of Ultra shipments was up from last year’s for the S20 Ultra as the company clearly underestimated demand for the 2020 Ultra.
