Samsung to be sole supplier of 120Hz LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 13

Back in the middle of last month, it became known that only the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will receive displays with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The matrices for these smartphones will be manufactured using LTPO technology, which uses a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide backplane, which provides lower power consumption. It is reported that only Samsung can supply such matrices.

The reputable Korean publication TheElec reported that only Samsung is capable of offering LTPO panels this year. LG, which also supplies screens for Apple, is reportedly working to master LTPO technology and will only be able to offer its products to the Californian company in 2022. Probably, LG, as well as the  Chinese BOE,  will supply matrices for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, which will retain the 60Hz refresh rate. Recall that the first device with an LTPO OLED matrix was the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, presented a little less than a year ago.

According to rumours, Apple will unveil the iPhone 13 series smartphones this September. Like the iPhone 12 series, it is expected to include four smartphones. There are practically no details about their technical characteristics yet.
