Galaxy Upcycling aims to recycle mobile devices to reduce environmental impact. In the EYELIKE system, a new Galaxy cellular device is used to detect eye diseases.

In particular, a used smartphone acts as an electronic “brain” of a diagnostic device. The fundus camera EYELIKE is connected to the lens attachment, and the smartphone itself is used for shooting.

After acquiring the images, the Galaxy device uses artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze the images and diagnose possible ophthalmic diseases. Further, a special application processes patient data and proposes a treatment regimen.

“ Such a device costs several times less than commercial devices. The unique and affordable diagnostic camera allows patients to be screened for pathological changes that can lead to blindness, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration, ”notes Samsung.

The proposed tool will contribute to solving the problem of visual impairment all over the world. In many cases, negative consequences can be prevented with correct diagnosis in the early stages of diseases.
