Samsung unveils PM1653, its fastest SAS SSD
Samsung Electronics today announced the high-performance PM1653 solid-state drives for enterprise-class high-end server and storage applications.
The presented devices use the SAS-4 interface, which provides bandwidth up to 24 Gb / s. This is twice as high as compared to SAS-3 (12 Gbps).
The drive design includes a Rhino controller and sixth-generation 128-layer V-NAND flash chips. Capacities can range from 800GB to 30.72TB, allowing for huge storage capacities.
The PM1653 is Samsung’s fastest SAS SSD. The declared speed of sequential reading of information reaches 4300 MB / s, the speed of sequential writing is 3800 MB / s.
The value of IOPS (input/output operations per second) for random data reading is up to 800 thousand. For random writing, the value, depending on the drive modification, is 135/270 thousand.
Samsung has already started trial shipments of new devices to selected customers. The start of mass production is scheduled for the second half of this year.
