Samsung unveils smartwatch Galaxy Watch 3: smartphone gesture control and advanced medical functions
During the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 virtual presentation, Samsung unveiled a number of new products, including such advanced accessories as the Galaxy Buds Live headphones and the Galaxy Watch 3, which will be discussed.
Thanks to the built-in sensors, it is possible to answer the call with a clenched fist and turn off the alarm with a shake of the hand. Inside the housing are located accelerometer with a sensitivity of up to 32g, a gyroscope, a barometer, a high-precision heart rate sensor 8, and the measurement function photodiodes volume of oxygen consumed VO 2 max and ambient light sensor. The watch is based on a dual-core Exynos 9110 processor with a frequency of 1.15 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal memory, as well as a microphone, speaker and linear vibration motor.
The watch is also capable of measuring blood pressure and receiving an electrocardiogram of the heart, but the launch time of the last function in Russia will be reported separately. Blood oxygen monitoring and autonomous running analysis will also be activated later. Despite its broad functionality, the Galaxy Watch 3 is not certified as a medical or diagnostic device. The watch offers advisory data, is able to track physical activity and well-being around the clock, monitor sleep quality, and help manage stress by controlling the user’s biorhythms. There are over 120 home workout programs available. There is a crash alert function that sends an urgent notification to selected contacts.
The watch comes in two sizes with 1.4 “(34 mm) and 1.2” (30 mm) round dials. The full-color Super AMOLED screen is always on and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass DX. The same glass is on the back of the watch. Even the older model has become smaller, lighter, and thinner than the predecessors of the Galaxy Watch series.
The stainless steel case has the military protection standard MIL-STD-810G, withstands loads up to 5 atmospheres, is IP68 dust and moisture protection, that is, it can work underwater for some time. In addition to the touch screen, the controls have two buttons and a rotating ring around the display, which allows not only rewinding on the watch itself, but also flipping through presentation slides or compositions in a playlist on a smartphone, and much more.
Communication means include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi b / g / n, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou navigation systems. Models with LTE (eSIM) and A-GPS support are offered separately.
The watch runs on the Samsung Wearable OS 5.5 operating system based on Tizen. Your Watch Face offers over 40 different screen configurations to display the information you want on your home screen. There are 90,000 watch faces available in the Galaxy Store. The task of protecting user data is entrusted to the defense-grade platform, Samsung Knox.
The sizes of the models are 45 × 46.2 × 11.1 mm and 41 × 42.5 × 11.3 mm, and the weight is 53.8 and 49.2 g, respectively, excluding the strap. The latter is made by hand from genuine leather. Its outer surface is artificially aged, while the inner surface is reinforced to resist fading and wear. The battery capacity is 340 and 247 mAh. Supports WPC wireless charging.
The larger model is available in black and bronze, while the smaller model is available in bronze and silver.
The watch will go to the US market on August 6 and is priced at $ 399.99 for the younger model, and in Russia on August 21 at a price of 34,990 rubles for the 45-mm version and 29,990 rubles for the 41-mm version. Pre-ordering can be made in official stores from August 5, in which case customers will receive an additional leather strap as a gift.
