Sega is interested in releasing Yakuza Kenzan and Ishin in the West, but cannot yet find a place for them in its schedule

Scott Strichart, Senior Producer for Localization of Sega Games, in an interview with YouTube channel Rocket Beans Gaming, spoke about the likelihood of Yakuza Kenzan and Yakuza Ishin entering the Western market.

As a reminder, Yakuza Kenzan (2008) and Yakuza Ishin (2014) are offshoots of the main series: the events of these games take place not in modern Japan, but in different historical periods – the 17th and 19th centuries, respectively.

Due to the specifics of Kenzan and Ishin, they have not yet seen the light outside of their native Japan, however, as Stricart assures, the situation may change dramatically in the near future.

“We definitely understand that there are gaps in our catalog that both Japan [Sega] and ours want to fill. It’s just a matter of finding a place for [these games] in the graphics, ” Stricart said.

According to the producer, the publisher is trying to maintain a balance between old and new releases, and also strive to avoid the potential oversaturation of the video game market.

Recall that literally in February 2020, Sega released The Yakuza Remastered Collection on the PlayStation, which included the third, fourth, and fifth parts of the crime saga, and now on the way to the western release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a sequel to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life with a new protagonist and an unusual combat system. The game is expected to be released outside Japan on November 13 on PC (Steam), PS4, and Xbox One, followed by Xbox Series X and PS5.
