Smart home equipment suppliers could collaborate with security delivery services

The results of a survey conducted by Strategy Analytics in France, Germany, the UK, and the USA show that delivering parcels to the garage looks like an attractive option for consumers living in smart homes with garages. More than half of the respondents called the idea of delivering to the garage very attractive.

Smart homeowners agree to let the courier deliver to the house or garage while they are not at home

In 2019, an average of 29 parcels was delivered to each smart home, and approximately every fourth recipient faced a situation where the parcel was stolen after it was delivered. Not surprisingly, delivering packages directly to your home or garage attracts many consumers. With the greatest enthusiasm, these options were accepted by consumers from the United States. German survey participants prefer the delivery service to leave packages in the garage rather than in the house. The French reacted most coolly to the fact that a delivery service employee could gain access to a house or a garage. It is characteristic and understandable that delivery to the garage was more welcomed by those survey participants who already had a remote garage door opener installed.

According to Strategy Analytics, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, people place orders on the Internet much more often than before, and they are worried that their purchases will be stolen after delivery. Therefore, for most smart home consumers, the idea seems attractive that they will be able to receive a delivery notification and control the delivery man who will leave the parcel in the house or garage while the owners are not at home. Analysts believe that suppliers of cameras, video intercoms, smart locks, and remote garage door openers could work with delivery services to ensure delivery security.
