The beta version has started rolling out as of today, July 31, 2023, in a number of countries. Sony usually releases a similar stable update to all PS users in a few months.

The biggest addition was support for Dolby Atmos. With PS5 games, users will be able to take full advantage of Dolby Atmos-enabled devices such as soundbars, TVs, or home theater systems.

Another innovation is an increase in the limit on the amount of SSD M.2. Currently supported up to 4 TB, but the beta version increases the limit to 8 TB.

Other new additions include the ability to enable haptic feedback on the DualSense controller while navigating the PS5 UI. It will also be possible to assign a second controller to one account in order to use it as an auxiliary. This can come in handy for helping kids or friends through a tricky part of a game or navigating the PS5 user interface.

Users will be able to invite players to a private “Party” without adding them to a group, and send invitations to groups, not just one friend. Sony has also added emoji to messages and so on.
