SpaceX canceled the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket with a navigation satellite two seconds before launch

SpaceX canceled the launch of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle, which was supposed to put a navigation satellite into space, just two seconds before launch. The launch of the rocket from the site of the cosmodrome at Cape Canaveral in Florida was scheduled for 04:43 Moscow time, and its main task was to deliver a new generation navigation satellite GPS III SV04 into orbit.

According to reports, SpaceX may retry the Falcon 9 launch today at 21:39 local time (04:39 Sunday Moscow time). At the moment it is not known what exactly caused the cancellation of the start. It is possible that some problems were identified in the operation of the systems of the launch vehicle or ground support facilities. Whether SpaceX can try to launch the Falcon 9 again just a day after the launch was canceled will depend on how long it takes to identify and fix the problem.

As for the GPS III satellite, it will be the fourth in a series of ten modernized navigation devices to be used by the US military. The two GPS III satellites were launched by SpaceX in December 2018 and June 2020, respectively. Another device was delivered into space on a Delta IV Medium rocket in August 2019.

It is worth noting that this week SpaceX is postponing the launch of the launch vehicle for the second time just before the launch itself. The launch, within which it was planned to send another batch of SpaceX Starlink Internet satellites into space, would have been canceled earlier.
