Many problems appear at once
Starfield was the first game to include an SSD in all system requirements. In Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the developers also specify an SSD, but in the minimum requirements, such a drive is listed as desirable. And tests show that on a fast modern HDD, the game generally works quite normally, only the downloads become much longer. Starfield finally “buries” classic hard drives as a solution for games.
Tests have shown that when installing a game on the HDD, it simply stops working at least somewhat normally. The game constantly freezes, sometimes the sound disappears, animations do not work, and so on. Well, as expected, the downloads are getting longer. Much longer.
Starfield simply does not work fully when installed on a hard drive
For example, loading a game from a save in the case of a modern SSD takes about 15 seconds, but on an HDD you will have to wait a minute and a half! The difference when loading into the Constellation headquarters is even more impressive: 30 seconds versus three, that is, an order of magnitude difference.
Rock paper shotgun journalists, who conducted relevant tests, concluded that Starfield was the end for HDDs in the gaming field. Of course, this is only the first game of this kind, but almost all processes begin with some kind of first step.
