Approval still pending
Billionaire Elon Musk has announced that his Starship space rocket is ready to launch from the SpaceX launch site in Texas.
“Starship is ready to launch. Regulatory approval pending,” Musk tweeted on Sunday.
The Federal Aviation Administration has scheduled an orbital test flight of the rocket for Monday, April 17, but SpaceX can only do it if the launch license is approved by then.
“Starship is ready to launch,” Elon Musk recalled the historic launch
Starship is the most powerful rocket in the world and will be used to send people to the moon and then to Mars. It is a two-stage rocket system consisting of a Super Heavy launch vehicle and a Starship spacecraft.
Elon Musk has already sold seats on future Starship launches, including to Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, who plans to make the first manned flight to the moon, taking eight people with him as part of the DearMoon program.
But SpaceX must prove that Starship can safely enter orbit before flights begin. The completion of this orbital test flight will be the first step for the company.
