They should be available soon in the network of partners of the company.
Synology recently announced its own brand of solid-state drives. The list of new products includes 2.5-inch models with SATA 6 Gb / s interface and models of sizes M.2 2280 and M.2 22110 with PCIe interface.
Synology Launches First SSD Under Own Brand
Size models 2.5 inches are offered in volumes of 480 GB, 960 GB, and 1920 GB. They are summarized in the Synology SAT5200 series. A resource of 1.3 full rewrites per day is declared for them during the five-year warranty period. Synology does not provide sequential read and writes speeds, probably justly believing that in drives they have long been determined by the capabilities of the interface, and from a practical point of view performance indicators are of more interest. For operations with random access in blocks of 4 KB, the performance reaches 98,000 IOPS in reading mode and 67,000 IOPS in write mode. These drives provide end-to-end protection of data paths, including protection against loss in the event of a power failure. Drives are intended for mixed-use.
The Synology SNV3400 and SNV3500 series are still represented by one capacity option – 400 GB. These are drives with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface, made in the size M.2 2280 and M.2 22110, respectively. The difference between the SNV3400 and SNV3500 is that the SNV3500 has protection against data loss in the event of a power failure. These drives are optimized for read-only workloads. They are designed for 0.68 full rewrites per day, and performance on reading operations reaches 205,000 IOPS. In recording mode, performance is much more modest – 40,000 IOPS.
Synology drives will soon become available on the company’s network of partners. The manufacturer does not name prices.
