The compact Apple HomePod mini is expected to be announced next week, but the big HomePod will not be updated yet

Apple is expected to unveil a smaller and more affordable version of its HomePod smart speaker next week during an event that will feature the iPhone 12. The Californian tech giant was also supposed to unveil the second generation of “big” speakers in addition to the compact model, but a reliable insider said, that HomePod 2 will not be this year.

Earlier this year, Apple allowed its employees to buy up to ten HomePods at a 50 percent discount. Some sources have suggested that the increase in the purchase limit from two to ten units may be part of Apple’s plan to get rid of leftovers from the original HomePod ahead of the launch of the new model. However, a fresh leak refutes the imminent release of the successor to the “big” smart speaker.

The company unveiled the original HomePod smart speaker in February 2018 for $ 349, which was dropped to $ 299 a couple of months later. Apple is constantly improving the device, giving it new features. Nevertheless, fans of the brand are waiting for the release of the updated model.

As for the rumors about the HomePod mini, it is assumed that the speaker will receive two tweeters instead of seven for the large speaker, making it more compact and affordable.
