Capcom is working on Street Fighter 6, and in an interview, a company spokesman revealed that the inspiration was taken from older games in the franchise.
Fighting game director Takayuki Nakayama told Game Informer:
“There are a lot of challenges we face while working on a new game, but if we talk about previous games, then we are definitely looking at Street Fighter 2. We are thinking about how to transform the formula of the second part of the series and bring it to a modern style and environment.”
The developers also drew inspiration from other games, including the Final Fight series, which takes the city of Metro City, where the story campaign of Street Fighter 6 takes place, and the soundtrack is modeled after Street Fighter: Third Strike.
The new part of the popular fighting game series will be released in 2023. The exact release date is unknown, but the game will appear on PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X/S.
