At the end of 2024
SiliconMotion specialists believe that the first laptops equipped with solid-state drives with a PCIe 5.0 interface will appear on the market only at the end of next year.
Some of these SSDs will be based on the recently announced SiliconMotion SM2508 controller. It supports data transfer speeds of up to 14 GB/s and can provide performance of up to 2.5 million IOPS, all while consuming only 3.5 W. The last point is especially important for mobile SSDs.

The new controller is manufactured using the 6 nm process technology at TSMC facilities and is equipped with a dual-core processor with Cortex-R8 cores.
There are already laptops on the market that are technically SSD-ready with PCIe 5.0. For example, these are some recent MSI models. But MSI itself installs drives with the PCIe 4.0 interface in such PCs since they are cheaper and heat much less.
