The leader in the European market for smart home devices is Amazon
IDC analytic company released a report for the fourth quarter of 2019 related to the European market of smart home devices.
The fourth quarter of 2019 was the best of all time for the European smart home device market, but this year COVID-19 will hit the market
According to analysts, during the reporting period, almost 39.9 million smart home devices were sold, which is 20.4% more in annual terms. This is the best quarter in history. In total, almost 107 million devices were sold during the year, which corresponds to an increase of 20%. However, analysts warn that growth will be undermined by the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
Nearly 21.1 million units were sold for entertainment video devices, up 10.9% year on year. Analysts expect that in 2024, 81.4 million units will be sold in this category.
The share of smart speakers for the year increased from 22.8% to 25.8%. Amazon Alexa remains the most popular voice assistant with a 58.3% market share. It is not surprising that Amazon is the market leader in terms of the number of shipped devices. Over the year, it increased deliveries from 6.056 to 7.736 million units, as a result of which its market share grew from 18.3% to 19.4%.
In second place is Google. Over the year, it increased deliveries from 5.066 to 6.077 million units. Google’s market share fell from 15.3% to 15.2% over the year.
The third place is Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer increased supplies from 4.544 to 5.049 million devices, and its share over the year decreased from 13.7% to 12.7%. The top five also include LG and Sony with 10.1% and 5.0% respectively. A year ago, their shares were 10.9% and 5.7%, respectively.
