The global smartphone market in 2020 will collapse by 11%

Strategy Analytics, according to network sources, has released a fresh forecast for the global smartphone market for the current year: the industry will show a significant decline due to the pandemic and the difficult economic situation.

Analysts believe that the supply of “smart” cellular devices in 2020 will be at the level of 1.26 billion units. If these expectations are met, the drop will amount to 11% compared to last year.

It should be noted that the previous forecast was more negative – it was said about a possible reduction of the market by 15.6%. However, Strategy Analytics records a more active market recovery in a number of regions than previously thought. This applies primarily to Europe, the United States, and India.

The market will return to growth in 2021 thanks to the emergence of low-cost smartphones with 5G support and new devices equipped with flexible displays. Shipments are expected to rise 9% to around 1.4 billion units.

Samsung will remain the industry leader with a 21% share. In second place will be Apple with a score of approximately 15.3%. Chinese giant Huawei will drop to the third position due to a decline in sales triggered by tough US sanctions.
