It will replace Groove Music
Microsoft released a completely redesigned media player for Windows 11 in February 2022. And now, finally, it becomes available to users of the previous generation OS – Windows 10.
The new media player is already available to members of the Windows Insider program in the Release Preview channel. The app is called Windows Media Player and replaces the Groove Music app, bringing the user’s playlists into the new app.
Windows Media Player received a new design, dark and light themes, rounded corners in the style of Windows 11. But most importantly, unlike Groove Music, the new application can not only play sound files, but also play videos, including those with HDR support.
