Before Nadella, Ballmer and Gates said about the same thing

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella gave a new interview where, among other things, he admitted that the company’s departure from the mobile market was a mistake.

The head of Microsoft admitted the abandonment of smartphones as a strategic mistake

When asked by a journalist about strategic mistakes, Nadella replied:

The decision that I think a lot of people talk about – and one of the hardest decisions I made when I became CEO – was to move away from what I call the mobile phone as it was then defined. In hindsight, I think there might have been ways to make this work, perhaps by reinventing the category of computing between PCs, tablets, and phones.

The irony is that before Nadella, Steve Ballmer regretted this, saying that work on Windows Vista led to Microsoft missing out on the mobile OS market. Before Ballmer, Bill Gates also spoke about the same thing, regretting that Microsoft ceded the mobile OS market to Google at the dawn of its inception.
