Let us recall that the history of the “Science” block has more than 20 years. It was based on the Zarya module backup – FGB-2. After the module is put into operation, the Russian segment of the station will receive additional volumes for the arrangement of workplaces and storage of goods, placement of equipment for the regeneration of water and oxygen. In addition, the conditions for the stay of cosmonauts will improve, as well as the safety of the entire ISS crew.

The development of “Science” took place with numerous difficulties, because of which the launch was constantly postponed. So, the launch of the block into orbit was planned back in 2011. Until recently, it was assumed that “Science” will go into space in April this year. But now it is reported that it will not be possible to meet these deadlines.

According to the head of the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS, Vladimir Solovyov, now the module’s launch into orbit is scheduled for the summer. Seven or eight space walks will be required to commission the unit.

The module is currently undergoing comprehensive testing in the assembly and testing building of site No. 254 of the Baikonur cosmodrome. The other day it was reported that the tests of the module are 80% complete.
