The Marauder is not a hindrance: DOOM Eternal is significantly ahead of DOOM (2016) in the percentage of players who completed the story campaign

DOOM Eternal director Hugo Martin in an interview with PC Gamer, talked about the principles of creating the Marauder and the popularity of the game among users compared to DOOM (2016).

Recall that the Marauder is a meeting several times during the passage of a mini-boss. Due to its special lethality, this enemy requires increased attention and specific tactics, which many did not like.

According to Martin, the Marauder is the “crystallized entity” of DOOM Eternal: the idea was to create an enemy that commands respect and forces you to most effectively clear the arena of smaller opponents.

“The game makes you think, decide, understand. And when you do this, you feel like a god, and at the end of the battle [against the Marauder], you think: “So, well, who wants to get shot here?” – explained Martin.

The player’s dissatisfaction, however, did not prevent them from completing the shooter to the end. According to Martin, DOOM Eternal significantly outperforms DOOM (2016) in terms of the percentage of users who completed the story campaign.

Today’s DOOM Eternal expansion The Ancient Gods, Part Two will end the story that began five years ago, but in the future of the series, Martin expects to see equally bold enemy designs.

DOOM Eternal is available on PC (Steam, Bethesda.net), PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. The premiere of full-fledged versions for the current generation of consoles is scheduled for this year.
