Too expensive: Apple contractors did not see the prospects for the AirPods Max headphones
According to a report released today by Digitimes, Apple’s contracted headphone component suppliers do not expect AirPods Max to significantly boost their revenue. Complex and Unitech find the product too niche.
The two companies that supply boards for AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max believe that the on-ear headphones target a niche segment with higher prices but much lower sales volumes compared to TWS headphones. What’s more, according to Canalys, only 20 of the 65 million headphones sold in Q3 2019 were on-ear, and the undisputed leaders of this market are JBL, Sony and Bose, which offer great headphones at a significantly lower price than Apple. Recall that the cost of AirPods Max is $ 550 (and in Russia – 63 thousand rubles).
Indeed, the high cost surprised many users and caused analysts to question Apple’s headphone market strategy. However, the AirPods Max was completely sold out on the day of the announcement. Now those who want to buy a new product will have to wait until March.
