The ban on the production of Kirin platforms on equipment with American technology may lead to the restructuring of the industry in the short term

There were rumours on the Web that TSMC will try in the time allotted to it before the introduction of new US sanctions prohibiting the production of single-chip Kirin systems using equipment with American technology, to maximize their capacity with Huawei orders. But this is not easy to do, as the TSMC plants are already loaded with orders from AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm and Apple.

According to rumours, TSMC plans to carry out a reorganization that will allow fulfilling the entire planned production volume of SoC Kirin ( and only the last order in monetary terms amounted to $ 700 million ), while maintaining the production of SoC, CPU, APU and GPU of other partners. But will it only work out, after all, TSMC and Huawei have a little more than three months left for everything – does the ban take effect on September 14? It is possible that in such a situation the production of some processors will be delayed.

Obviously TSMC will not risk Apple’s contract, but with AMD, Nvidia and Qualcomm, you can try to negotiate.

What will it all turn out for ordinary users? There may be delays in the output of new CPUs, GPUs, and single-chip systems produced by the 5 or 7 nm manufacturing process of these three TSMC partners.

That is, announcements, if they are already on the roadmap, will be on time, but there may be problems with the real availability of new products.

The Chinese media have already asked TSMC for clarification of these rumours, but the answer turned out to be on duty: “the company does not disclose information about customer orders and cannot respond to market rumours.”

It is interesting that in approximately the same vein, TSMC commented on the rumour about the termination of acceptance of orders from Huawei, but in the end, everyone already knows that the company will obey the ban.
