Zuckerberg set to 1 billion users
Meta* CEO Mark Zuckerberg has officially announced that the new social network Threads is rapidly gaining popularity.
Zuckerberg wrote on his Threads page that the five million account mark was crossed in the first four hours after launch.
“I think there should be an app in the market for public conversations with over 1 billion people. Twitter had the ability to do this, but didn’t implement it. I hope we succeed,” Zuckerberg said.
Twitter had the ability to do this, but didn’t implement it.
Accounts for brands such as Billboard, HBO, NPR and Netflix were created within minutes of launch. Zuckerberg said Shakira and Gordon Ramsay were among the first celebrities.
Users will need an Instagram account** to sign in. Once registered, they can follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram, as long as they have joined the new social network.
The app is visually very similar to Twitter, although some of the wording has been changed: retweets are called “reposts” and tweets are called “threads.”
Posts in Threads can be 500 characters long, compared to 280 for most Twitter users. You can post videos up to five minutes long. Users can unsubscribe from the authors of publications, block them, limit messages. Users can also filter responses with specific words.
Immediately after the release of Threads, Mark Zuckerberg decided to troll Elon Musk by posting the first message on Twitter in 11 years .
