NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is ready for mass production. She will receive software and hardware protection from mining
According to the German resource Igor’s LAB, NVIDIA has already prepared the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics accelerator to start mass production. The company has already sent its partners the qualification samples of the video card for final checks and preparation of their own versions of accelerators.
As part of the future novelty, the source notes that not the GPU that was originally planned will be used. It is indicated that the composition of the video card will use a chip marked either GA102-302 or GA102-202. The new GPU was equipped with software and a hardware mining limiter, which reduces the efficiency of mining Ethereum cryptocurrency. The chip, which was originally planned to be used, did not have a hardware limiter.
It is noted that NVIDIA also released a sample of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti without a mining limiter. Curiously, the old and new qualifications have the same Device ID. In theory, this allows you to install firmware from the old version of the video card without such a limiter on a new sample with a mining limiter. However, it is indicated that in this case, the GPU versions differ at the hardware level, so the firmware, although installed on the new version of the video card, will not work.
Unfortunately, so far, no information has been provided about when you can expect the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti video card announcement and the start of its sales. If the readiness information for mass production is correct, the launch should take place pretty soon. Let’s hope that NVIDIA and its partners will prepare for the launch of new items better than for the latest launches of new products – at least they will create large reserves.
