Ubisoft rejects speculation about impact of conflict with Monster Energy on Immortals Fenyx Rising title
A Ubisoft spokesman, at the request of the Video Games Chronicle, commented on recent information about the impact of a legal conflict with Monster Energy on the name Immortals Fenyx Rising (formerly Gods & Monsters).
Recall that in mid-September, documents were found on the website of the US Patent and Trademark Office, according to which the energy drink manufacturer had filed a protest against the registration of the Gods & Monsters trademark.
The French publishing house tried to defend its right to the name Gods & Monsters but eventually renamed the game to Immortals Fenyx Rising, so as not to waste time, effort, and money arguing with Monster Energy.
Ubisoft, for its part, insists that the name change from Gods & Monsters to Immortals Fenyx Rising was the result of a new vision for the project, and not something else.
“The name change to Immortals Fenyx Rising reflects a creative decision, not a legal issue. As stated, the additional development time allowed us to develop the original vision and open up new possibilities for the game, ”said a representative from Ubisoft.
Earlier, the head of development at Immortals Fenyx Rising Scott Phillips admitted that the first idea for the game came to him when looking at the consequences of a bug in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Immortals Fenyx Rising goes on sale December 3 for PC (Uplay, Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and S, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia. It will be possible to try the project before releasing as part of the demo, but only in the Google cloud service.
