Video: a story about the creation and types of enemies in Returnal from the director of the game

Recently Housemarque studio and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment published the trailer Returnal, which showed several types of enemies. Shortly thereafter, game director Harry Krueger went into more detail about creating opponents. He told what the developers were inspired by and what features will be noted by the enemies.

Housemarque has set itself the goal of creating difficult conditions for survival on the planet Atropos. The studio has implemented the appropriate flora and fauna to make users feel like they are in an inhospitable environment. The monsters in Returnal have adapted to the constant darkness on their planet. They now have glowing body elements that create a contrast against the design of the locations.

As for the appearance of enemies, it was developed under the influence of the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft (Howard Phillips Lovecraft). Hence the horror aesthetics with many tentacles.

 

 

Harry Kruger also talked about the battles in Returnal. Most of them will not be protracted but will be marked by high dynamics. Users will have to actively move on the ground and in the air using the main character’s jetpack. Enemies will constantly surprise you with unique features that depend on their class, species, habitat, and other factors.

Returns will be released on April 30, 2021, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The game’s trophy list was recently leaked online.
