Video: blogger showed what Red Dead Redemption 2 looks like in 8K with improved graphics and RTX effects

The author of the YouTube channel Digital Dreams regularly uploads videos in which he demonstrates games with an improved visual component. He recently showed how beautiful The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can look and showcased GTA V with near-photorealistic graphics. He has now posted a video of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 8K, with ray tracing effects and more natural graphics.

In their experiment, Digital Dreams launched RDR 2 with maximum settings and ReShade modification. Thanks to fashion, the surrounding objects have really changed. Their quality and clarity of textures increased, but at the same time, the style suffered – sometimes, the picture hurts the eye.

But the lighting in the video turned out great, thanks to the RayTraced Global Illumination shader by Pascal Gilcher. The latter provides one of the ray-tracing effects – real-time global illumination. You can fully appreciate it after the second minute when the weather is gradually deteriorating. The main character climbs the hill and looks at the surrounding space from a height.

Not everything is clear with the 8K resolution in the video. On NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (listed in the video description), Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080p and high settings are executed at an average of 85 fps. Accordingly, in 8K and with maximum graphic parameters, the frame rate would have significantly decreased, but the action is executed smoothly in the video. Perhaps Digital Dreams launched RDR 2 in 4Kor lower resolution and then increased the already recorded video’s resolution to 8K using the appropriate software. For example, as did Digital Foundry in the case of recent tests of the modified Bloodborne
