Patents received on New Year’s Eve
Xiaomi has received a patent from CNIPA (State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China) for two new designs for wraparound smartphones.
One solid display: Xiaomi has come up with a couple more ways to wrap the smartphone in the screen
Note that Xiaomi’s attempts in the past to release a smartphone with a “girdle” screen were not crowned with success – Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha for $ 2800 never made it to store shelves. In December, Xiaomi filed a patent for the potential heir to the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha with a retractable camera.
Now information has appeared about two more Xiaomi developments in this direction. The first design option uses a flexible screen covering the entire front surface and almost the entire rear. Also, small displays are located on the side faces.
The second option does not differ too much, mainly the differences boil down to a different camera organization and smoother corners at the top and bottom.
On January 1, 2021, Xiaomi also received patents for 7 variants of foldable smartphones. Of course, as is usually the case, we cannot say when we will see these developments on store shelves.
