Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Developers Explain Xbox Choice

Key employees of the Fatshark studio, in an interview with GamingBolt, commented on the platform affiliation of their co-op action game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

Recall that Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was announced in the summer of 2020 as a temporary console exclusive for the new generation of Microsoft consoles – Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

In a conversation with GamingBolt reporters, Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund, technical producer Mikael Hansson, and game director Anders De Geer explained the situation.

As it turned out, the matter is in the difficulties associated with multi-platform releases: it is potentially easier to release the game simultaneously on three systems (PC, Xbox Series X, and S) than on four.

“It’s no secret that launching on multiple platforms takes time, and we want to make sure we can do this for a simultaneous premiere on PC and Xbox,” the developers said.

This is not the first time Fatshark finds itself in a similar situation: the fantasy action game Warhammer: Vermintide 2 also first came out on the Xbox One (but after the PC) and only a few months later made it to the PS4.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is slated to launch on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X, and S during this year. The project received its first full gameplay trailer at The Game Awards 2020.
