Microsoft plans to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025
A few months ago, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10 would no longer receive “big” updates with new features and significant changes. However, Microsoft continues to service Windows 10 with monthly Patch Tuesdays and additional minor non-security updates.
An additional update in August, however, brought two notable innovations at once. First, the OS received the new Windows Backup app previously introduced by Microsoft for Windows 11. In addition, users have discovered an unexpected change in File Explorer.
Windows 10 File Explorer received an unexpected update
File Explorer has a new button for backing up documents, pictures, downloads, and files. Pressing the button launches OneDrive and the “Back Up Important PC Folders to OneDrive” feature, ensuring files in user folders are always synced to OneDrive.
Microsoft has yet to officially announce the new “Start Backup” button. However, users can enable it on their Windows 10 PC in Settings with admin-level access and some dexterity. Soon the innovation should appear for all other users.
