Windows 10 will receive only one major update next year

This fall, Microsoft will release Windows 10 20H2 updates for its software platform. It will not bring major changes and will mainly consist of general fixes and minor OS improvements. After that, Windows 10 21H1 is due to arrive next spring, but online sources report that Microsoft may drop it with only one major OS update next year.

Initially, the developers planned to release a preview version of Windows 10X this fall, and the Windows 10 21H1 update – next spring. However, the release of Windows 10X was delayed until the second quarter of 2021, so Microsoft decided to postpone the launch of the 21H1 update. The source says that Microsoft is considering moving to a timetable, in which the software platform will receive only one major update per year. This means that the 21H1 package will not be released at all, and later 21H2 will be released, which will bring new features to users.

The current frequency of release of updates, when one major and one minor updates are released per year, is not a template for the future. The source says that starting next year, Microsoft may move to release just one functional update per year. It is worth noting that Microsoft has not made official statements regarding the future fate of Windows 10. It is assumed that more information on this issue may appear next year when the developers will present the first preview version of Windows 10X.
