Windows 10X will receive the function “Theft protection”

It’s no secret that Microsoft is preparing to release a modular operating system Windows 10X, the first devices with which should appear this spring. Gradually, more is known about the new software platform, and now the source says that it will come with an Anti-Theft feature that will make it difficult to continue using stolen and lost Windows 10X devices.

It is easy to guess from the name of the mentioned function that it is intended to prevent the device from being reset and used in the event of theft. To restore factory settings, in Windows 10X you need to log in to the system with the original credentials, i.e. those used in the initial setup. This means that if a Windows 10X device is stolen, an attacker will not be able to perform a factory reset.

According to reports, this feature will be disabled by default and users will need to activate it themselves. In addition, to confirm the reset, you will need to enter a PIN-code, which the system will ask you to come up with when activating the Anti-Theft function. If the user forgets the password for his account or is unable to enter the PIN, this can lead to certain problems.

According to reports, the first Windows 10X devices will hit the market this spring. The first major update for the software platform will be released in 2022.
