Xiaomi has limited the installation of Google services for users of its smartphones from China

The GizChina portal reports that Chinese users of Xiaomi smartphones can no longer install Google services on their devices.

Installation restrictions appeared after updating to MIUI 12.5. In an official statement, Xiaomi has confirmed that it is no longer possible to manually install the GMS (Google mobile services) package on smartphones for the Chinese market that do not initially come with Google services. Without GMS, devices cannot work with the Google Play store, as well as some other functions in Android, which are handled by Google itself. So far, the shutdown has only affected users of the Redmi K30 Ultra and Redmi 10X 5G smartphones intended for the Chinese domestic market. It should be said that for users from China this should not be a serious problem, because many manufacturers of smartphones and tablets on Android refuse to use Google services in favor of solutions from Chinese developers. Not yet known, will the new rules affect other devices that are updated or released with MIUI 12.5. Users of other markets shouldn’t worry about the word at all, because the decision concerns only China.

Thus, Xiaomi provides a direct response to the recent US sanctions against the company. According to the new rules, brands and individuals from the United States are prohibited from investing in Xiaomi and possessing securities of a Chinese company.
