Xiaomi has shown that you can drive a car via a smartphone. Distance doesn’t matter, you only need 5G network

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone last month in China with support for fifth-generation 5G networks. Unfortunately, the appearance of new items on the global market is not yet expected. However, the company has given users the opportunity to experience the benefits of the Mi 10 Ultra, including near-zero latency when using 5G.

On the official Xiaomi page on the social network Weibo, a video was published demonstrating how a professional driver used a smartphone to remotely control the movement of a sports car at a distance of 2,000 miles (3.2 thousand km) on a race track in a controlled environment.

According to Xiaomi, this experience was done using a 5G Autonomous Architecture (SA) network with a minimum latency of 1ms. The car has been specially modified to work on the same network and the app was developed exclusively for this demonstration.

In this video, a remotely controlled car won the race, which is most likely a marketing gimmick. Nevertheless, the ability to remotely control a car using a smartphone is impressive, and it seems that such races could become a common form of competition in the near future.
