Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra will be the first smartphone with a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor

Today, a well-known insider hiding under the nickname Ice Universe revealed new details about the upcoming flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. He stated that the device will be released later this month and will be the first on the market to receive a Samsung ISOCELL GN2 main camera sensor.

This information is in line with a statement from tech blog Digital Chat Station, according to which Xiaomi has two major announcements scheduled for March and April. He also suggested that the Mi 11 Ultra will be unveiled alongside the Mi 11 Pro, which is also rumored to use the ISOCELL GN2 sensor and boast a small secondary display on the back.

According to Ice Universe, ISOCELL GN2 will be the largest sensor for smartphone cameras this year. Rather than aiming for a huge resolution, Samsung has endowed the 50MP sensor with large 1.4μm pixels. It supports combining four adjacent pixels into one, which should significantly improve the photo’s quality in low light.

It is expected that Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro, in addition to ISOCELL GN2, will receive 48-megapixel sensors with periscope lenses and 48-megapixel sensors with ultra-wide-angle optics. The exact launch date for the smartphones is still unknown.
