YouTube will end support for 3rd generation Apple TV in March

In March 2021, outdated Apple TVs will no longer support the YouTube app. 9to5Mac reports this concerning one of its readers who encountered this problem.

This event applies to owners of Apple TV 3rd generation and earlier. Apple TV 4 and 4K running tvOS will still work with the popular video service’s native client. Despite this, it will still be possible to play YouTube content on a TV box via AirPlay, but this requires an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Mac. At the moment, Apple officially supports only the current generation of TV-boxes based on the tvOS operating system. Older versions of Apple TV relied solely on agreements between Apple and content providers for the latest functionality.

Recently, many TV and set-top box manufacturers have begun to integrate the Apple TV online platform and the AirPlay protocol into their devices. Therefore, for the owners of modern smart TVs who, for some reason, use older generations of Apple TVs, we advise you to study the specifications; perhaps your TV provides more advanced functionality than the 2012 set-top box.
