You need a PS5 for it to work.

Today, various publications have published their reviews of the portable game console, if you can call it that, the Sony PlayStation Portal. We’ve collected a variety of opinions and feedback from various reviews to understand what Sony has done and who needs it.

The Verge says the device makes a confusing first impression. Due to the very nature of Portal and its limitations, the device is, according to journalists, primarily intended for PlayStation fans who want a simple and specialized tool for streaming games in their home.

The VGC authors also say that the new product will appeal to a rather narrow circle of gamers. Not only do you have to be a PlayStation fan, you also have to have scenarios where Portal makes sense at all. For example, when there is only one TV in the house and you have to share it with relatives. Or when someone wants to sit on the toilet or lie in the bathroom, but continue to play. Or play while lying on the bed, when the bed is not in the same room as the TV. In addition, this is a good gift option for a gamer who has a PlayStation 5.

If we talk about the advantages, there are many of them. First, surprisingly, is autonomy. After the announcement, it was expected that Portal would not please with this indicator, but it turned out that the device works for 6–10 hours, which is very good. Secondly, journalists say that the device is very comfortable to hold. In addition, the main DualSense technologies are supported here, that is, adaptive triggers and a proprietary haptic feedback system.

The screen as a whole is also praised, however, in bright sunlight, if you use the console outdoors, the display brightness will no longer be enough.

Connection stability, which is critical for Portal, is also fine. In most cases, journalists did not experience any problems with the quality of data transmission, even when connected via 5G.

As for the shortcomings, the main one, of course, concerns the capabilities of the device. If PlayStation Portal could at least launch games from the PS Now cloud service, this would significantly expand its capabilities and attract more gamers.

In addition, the console does not support Bluetooth connectivity, which means you can connect either wired headphones or expensive branded Sony headphones. Some people call the price of $200 optimal, while others consider it too high, given the extremely limited use cases.
