According to Geekbench, Radeon PRO W6900X for Apple Mac Pro will be 81% faster than Radeon PRO VII

Apple recently updated macOS to include support for the latest AMD GPUs based on the RDNA 2 architecture. The update is limited to consumer Radeon RX series graphics cards. Meanwhile, the Geekbench database has information about one of the models of the upcoming series of specialized Radeon PRO accelerators – Radeon PRO W6900X.

The professional graphics card was tested in a MacPro 7.1 system based on the Intel Cascade Lake-X processor. Judging by the name of the graphics accelerator, we are talking about an exclusive solution for Apple. Unfortunately, apart from the name, the test does not report anything about the new product, so it is not yet clear, for example, how much memory the video card is equipped with.

Earlier this week, images of a video card based on the RDNA 2 architecture (photo above) appeared on the Web for Apple Mac computers. Presumably, it is a Radeon PRO W6900X. The video card is equipped with a tangential-type cooling system and does not have any identification marks. In appearance, however, it differs from the unnamed Radeon PRO that was announced earlier this month.

According to Geekbench, the system with the Radeon PRO W6900X was powered by a 12-core Intel Core i9-10920X processor and 192GB of DDR4-2933MHz RAM. The video card was tested in the Apple Metal API benchmark.

Estimates of its performance range from 152 to 171 thousand points, which puts it between the Radeon RX 6800XT and Radeon RX 6900XT models.

If we take 171,448 points as a basis, then the new product turns out to be even faster than the Radeon RX 6900XT.

Based on the benchmark results, the Radeon PRO W6900X offers nearly 81% more performance than the Radeon Pro VII based on the Vega 20 GPU.
