Now there is only one laptop model with SmartShift
SmartShift technology was introduced by AMD at the beginning of this year along with Ryzen 4000 mobile processors. The technology is designed specifically for mobile PCs. The essence of its work is quite simple: SmartShift is responsible for the redistribution of power limits between the CPU and GPU in real-time.

That is, if at some point in time, for example, in a game, the processor is only partially loaded, and the load on the video card is maximum, SmartShift will “take” the unused power reserve from the CPU and direct it to the video card. Thus, in general, the laptop will not go beyond a certain total consumption limit, and productivity in the game will increase.
Unfortunately, just like the Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs themselves, SmartShift technology is slowly entering the market. Actually much slower than the CPU. As it became known, at the moment there is only one model on the market with support for this technology – the Dell G5 15 SE. This is a laptop based on the Ryzen 7 4800H CPU and Radeon RX 5600M graphics card. Moreover, according to a statement by Frank Azor, co-founder of Alienware now working at AMD, laptops with SmartShift will no longer appear on the market by the end of this year.
The reason is the inertia of the notebook market, due to the fact that manufacturers form roadmaps in about a year and can not always take into account the emergence of new technologies in advance. But Azor added that next year we can expect a wider spread of SmartShift.
