AMD is preparing new processors for Zen 2: Lenovo indirectly confirmed the existence of AMD Lucienne chips

AMD representatives recently admitted that they do not consider it necessary to develop a separate architecture for low-cost processors. Small, low-cost laptops now use derivative forms of faster APUs. After the transition to Zen 2 architecture, the trend continued, based on the information available.

To begin with, we will list the versions of AMD mobile processors for the so-called “Chromebooks” that were created by the company. First, as an alternative to the more productive Picasso, economical Dali processors were offered, which were produced using 14nm technology, and later they were joined by Pollock hybrid processors, which shared 12nm lithographic norms with Picasso. The TDP level of Dali processors did not exceed 6W, and the 12nm Pollock processors had the opportunity to lower it even lower.

It was assumed that within the framework of the Zen 2 architecture, the company will offer processors based on the 7nm Renoir family for the segment of economical laptops. Such processors even got their own symbol – Lucienne, in honor of the French artist Lucienne Bisson, who is considered to be the illegitimate daughter of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. In other words, a similar relationship can be traced to the AMD processor family.

Lenovo has recently been registered in the customs database ECE series convertible IdeaPad Flex Mobile 5 devices of the new range, in which the symbols designating «ALC» present. For comparison, similar devices based on Renoir processors use the “ARE” designation. It can be assumed that the letters LC hide an abbreviation for Lucienne, and the corresponding AMD processors will soon appear in Lenovo’s commercial products.
