AMD revenue from GPU sales in the server segment halved

By introducing the A100 compute accelerator in mid-May, NVIDIA has already increased its share in its own supply structure to 25%. Third-party sources argue that AMD cannot boast of such dynamics, and therefore in the second quarter, its revenue from the sale of graphics processors in the server segment was halved compared to the same period last year.

Ambrish Srivastava, a spokesman for BMO Capital Markets, made the announcement as he hosted the Virtual Technology Summit this week. From NVIDIA’s side, CFO Colette Kress took part in it, and AMD did not send its representatives to take part in the broadcast. This did not prevent Srivastava from concluding that in the second quarter NVIDIA increased its revenue from the sale of GPUs in the server segment by 89% to $ 1.24 billion.

AMD cannot boast of such successes, according to the analyst. Not only that in the second quarter it earned no more than $ 30 million from the sale of GPUs in the server segment, but this amount also decreased by half compared to the same period last year. Recall that the company is determined to conquer the server market with its graphics processors, since by the end of the year the carriers of the new CDNA architecture, which is an evolutionary offshoot of RDNA, taking into account the specifics of the server segment, should be released.

A spokesman for BMO Capital Markets also emphasizes that sales of NVIDIA gaming GPUs in the second quarter increased by double-digit percentages, although traditionally this period of the year cannot be called active in terms of demand in the gaming segment. As already noted, self-isolation has influenced the changing trends, leaving many users in the world alone with computer games.
