AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX is 2.3x faster than Intel’s closest competitor in PassMark

AMD introduced the new Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors back in July this year. However, since then, no information has been published about this series of chips. The series flagship is the 64-core and 128-thread Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX model. Recently, the first test results of the processor in the synthetic PassMark test appeared.

They were discovered by the notorious Internet detective Tum Apisak. In the test, the chip showed a result of 88 675 points, which put it above the same 64-core and 128-thread Ryzen Threadripper 3990X and EPYC 7702. If you go down 11 positions below the table, which are occupied exclusively by AMD processors, you can find an Intel processor Xeon Gold 6248R @ 3.0 GHz base frequency. Its result in the PassMark performance test is 38,521 points. It turns out that the AMD chip is 2.3 times more productive!

Of course, it’s not fair to compare directly Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX and Intel Xeon Gold 6248R. The latter has “only” 24 cores and 48 threads. However, even such a comparison demonstrates how far AMD is now in the issue of super-performance and multi-core processors.

But having a chip such as the Threadripper PRO 3995WX in the system is not cheap. Primarily, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO series processors will not go on public sale. At first, the only company, Lenovo, will be engaged in the distribution of ready-made systems based on them.

The Chinese manufacturer has already unveiled the ThinkStation P620 workstation, the configuration of which, in addition to the new CPUs, will include up to 1 TB DDR4-3200, two Nvidia Quadro RTX 8000 video cards or four Quadro RTX 4000 video cards, a 10 Gbps network controller, several SSDs and disk drives. , as well as a 1000 W power supply. The described system based on the flagship Threadripper PRO 3995WX chip is estimated at almost $ 18,100.
