AMD still plans to release mobile Radeon RX 6000 before the end of June
During today’s quarterly report, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, among other things, touched upon the topic of future GPUs, including mobile ones. In short: the company still plans to release next-generation graphics cards for laptops by the end of the second quarter of 2021.
This year, AMD announced that Navi 2X GPUs would hit the mobile segment in the first half of 2021. Also, in early March this year, AMD confirmed that laptops with its Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards “will be coming soon.” And now, the head of AMD has confirmed that the designated plans are still in place.
At the moment, AMD expects the first laptops with its next-generation GPUs to ship later this quarter. This means that laptop manufacturers will start receiving new GPUs quickly, as they have only two months left to release laptops with new chips.
AMD also noted that it continues to ramp up its GPU production to meet the shortage, although TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing capacity is still in short supply. There are also problems with the availability of lines for packing crystals, such as placing them and all the necessary additional components on substrates. Unfortunately, AMD did not share information on when we can expect the situation to improve. It is also unclear when the new Radeon RX 6000 series desktop graphics cards, particularly the mid-range and entry-level models, may appear. They could probably be introduced alongside mobile cards later this quarter.
