AMD will not limit mining options on Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards
After NVIDIA implemented an Ethereum mining limiter in its latest GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, which can nevertheless be easily circumvented, many wondered if AMD would do the same. The company has now announced that it has no intention of blocking mining on its graphics cards.
Niesh Neelalojanan, AMD Product Manager, said during a preliminary briefing on the Radeon RX 6700 XT that the company would not block any workloads on its GPUs, be it mining or otherwise. However, he stated that, like RDNA, RDNA 2’s architecture is aimed primarily at games. Infinity Cache, coupled with a relatively small memory bus width, perfectly suits this purpose. Still, mining requires high bandwidth, so its capabilities on the Radeon RX 6000 are initially somewhat limited. Indeed, the performance of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 in Ethereum mining is about twice as high as compared to older Radeon cards on the flagship Navi 21 chip.
In any case, any more or less productive video cards are now in demand among miners. Appearing on the market, they are immediately bought up by cryptocurrency miners, which is very frustrating for gamers.
