AMD will stop releasing reference Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 in early 2021

Reference samples of graphics accelerators Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 on the market will not stay long. This was announced by senior vice president of AMD Radeon division Scott Herkelman (Scott Herkelman).

When asked by one of the Twitter users, he replied that the reference versions of these video cards will be produced only until the beginning of 2021. After that, the company will rely on sales of non-standard models from its partners.

Recall that the start of sales of the reference versions of the Radeon RX 6800 series video cards took place on November 18. As expected, the new items were in serious shortage and were quickly sold out around the world. Video cards never made it to many stores. The implementation of Radeon video cards, at least in the West, is handled by AMD itself and its partners, who have also presented reference versions of accelerators, but under their own brands. In addition, many AMD partners have already presented their non-reference versions of these video card models. However, the latter will not go on sale until November 25th.

Unlike NVIDIA, for AMD production of reference samples of new video cards only during the first months from the beginning of their implementation is a fairly standard practice. Usually, after that, the production and sales of Radeon graphics accelerators are exclusively handled by its partners, who produce models with a different configuration of printed circuit boards and cooling systems.
