It will be released later this year.
Nvidia has DLSS technology, which turned out to be very successful in its second iteration, and there are more and more games with its support. Moreover, rumors attribute DLSS support to even the new Nintendo console.
Analogue of Nvidia DLSS for Radeon video cards. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution Technology Will Not Rely on Machine Learning
AMD doesn’t have anything like that, but it will. We already know that the company is preparing a cross-platform FidelityFX Super Resolution technology and that it will be released immediately on all supported devices, that is, on video cards and consoles.
In an interview, an AMD top manager confirmed that FidelityFX Super Resolution will be released this year, but also noted that the developers still have a lot of work to do, that is, we should not expect the technology to be released in the coming months.
It is developing very well inside our laboratory, but we strive to ensure that the gaming community is open, that it works in all areas, and game developers must accept this. Despite the fact that the process is going well, we still have to work not only within the company, but also with our partners – game developers. We want to launch the technology this year and we believe we can do it, but at the same time, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. We need to make sure the image quality is in place and the technology can scale across different resolutions. At the same time, our game developers are happy with what we produce.
Also Scott Herkelman noted one curious detail that was not previously mentioned.
You don’t need machine learning to do this, you can do it in many different ways, and we evaluate in many different ways. What matters most to us is what game developers want to use, because if in the end it’s just for us, we force people to do it and that’s not the best outcome. We would rather ask the gaming community which of these methods they would prefer we implement so that in this way it can be immediately disseminated across the industry and hopefully cross-platform
That is, FidelityFX Super Resolution will not rely on machine learning, as it has done in the case of Nvidia DLSS. In general, this is logical, given that there are simply no cores allocated for this in the AMD GPU, but this issue has not been covered before.
